the Travis Manion Foundation

Activating communities to honor our heroes

Travis Manion Foundation

The Travis Manion Foundation (TMF) was created in honor of its namesake, 1st Lt. Travis Manion, USMC, who in 2007 made the ultimate sacrifice for the safety of his patrol in the Al Anbar province of Iraq.

“If Not Me, Then Who…”

Before his final deployment to Iraq, Travis left with a simple but powerful ethos. “If Not Me, Then Who…” describes the sense of duty felt by service members and their families. Today it is a constant reminder for all of us to live with character and put the interests of others before our own. The TMF vision is to create a nation of purpose-driven individuals and thriving communities that is built on this character.

The Travis Manion Foundation conducts 9/11 Heroes Run each year around September 11th and welcomes participants of all ages and skill levels. FESCO’s goal in supporting the Travis Manion Foundation and its Heroes Run in Annapolis is to raise awareness within the Fire & EMS communities.

Founded in 2008 in honor of 1st Lt. Travis Manion, the vision of the Travis Manion Foundation is to inspire others with his commitment to country and passion for community. By empowering veterans and families of fallen heroes to lead a service-based movement with the ethos of “If Not Me, Then Who…”, the Foundation is able to touch thousands of lives. Through community-building projects, programs that inspire future leaders, initiatives that foster camaraderie, and events that support our veterans, service members, and their families, the legacies of our heroes continue to live on.

9/11 HEROES RUN

The runs activate communities across the country to honor the sacrifice of the heroes of 9/11 and the wars fought since and also benefit them directly. A large portion of funds raised through the 9/11 Heroes Run are invested back into the race communities to support local veterans, first responders, troops, and military families. The remaining proceeds support Travis Manion Foundation programs. Each 9/11 Heroes Run is organized by local volunteers who have asked themselves “If Not Me, Then Who…” and are serving in their communities.

FESCO’S INVOLVEMENT

Travis is the cousin of Carron Laake, wife of FESCO President Pete Laake Jr. While Travis was enrolled at the Naval Academy, Pete & Carron would often attend his Navy wrestling matches and join him for dinner. Pete & Carron involved their children and their youth sport teams in these 9/11 Runs as a way to pass along Travis’ legacy and help raise awareness.

Since 2016, FESCO has sponsored the 9/11 Heroes Run held in Annapolis, MD and encourages you to participate.

THE FESCO CHALLENGE

Inspired by two Cobb Island VFD firefighters who run in full turnout gear, FESCO has increased its support of the Foundation and the Annapolis event to thank the fire service community for its effort and contributions in the mid-Atlantic region. FESCO covers the entry fees for five members from any fire department to run. Send an email to FESCO at events@fescosales.com and register your department’s team to run!
